The answer
Catch-up bookkeeping in New York
New York bills small businesses off figures that are not profit. The LLC filing fee is a ladder keyed to prior-year gross income from New York sources, with no deduction for cost of goods sold, and the corporate minimum is keyed to receipts. A losing year still owes.
A firm quotes $1,500 to $3,500 to rebuild a year and takes three to eight weeks. Titan reads your bank and card statements and returns closed, tied-out books at a fixed public price. Your first month is closed free, so you can read it first.

Firms in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut market often quote catch-up work per month of backlog instead, commonly $300 to $600 a month, which lands a full year above the national range. The wait is the same three to eight weeks either way, because the constraint is a person reading pages.
02 / The New York calendar
Six dates, and what each one asks of your books.
Cadence rather than a single date, because a deadline that lands on a weekend or a holiday moves to the next business day. Confirm your own filing frequency with the Department of Taxation and Finance.

03 / The fee ladder
Priced on gross income, not on profit.
Every LLC and LLP with New York source income climbs this ladder once a year. The rung is set by gross income from New York sources for the year before the fee is due, and cost of goods sold is not deducted on the way up.

A reseller reading gross rather than net is the classic overpayment, and an owner who guesses low is the classic underpayment. Both are answered by one closed year where the sales line traces to the statement it came from.
04 / The city on top
New York City taxes the same books again.
A business operating in the five boroughs files at the city level as well as the state level, off the same ledger. An unincorporated business pays the Unincorporated Business Tax; a corporation, an S corporation included, pays the Business Corporation Tax instead. The small-liability credit means the question is whether you cross a line, not whether you file.

A sole proprietor who pays the Unincorporated Business Tax may also claim a credit against personal income tax for part of it, which is one more reason the city figure has to be a real number rather than an estimate. Your CPA confirms which city tax your entity owes.

06 / Questions
The rest of what New York owners ask.
- How much does catch-up bookkeeping cost in New York?
- Firms in the New York market commonly quote $300 to $600 per month of backlog, so a year runs $3,600 to $7,200, after a discovery call and three to eight weeks of waiting. Titan charges $999 for up to 12 months, which is $83.25 per month closed.
- Why does the LLC filing fee use gross income instead of profit?
- Because the statute says gross, with no deduction for cost of goods sold. A reseller with $600,000 of sales and $60,000 of profit sits on the gross rung, not the profit rung. Guessing costs money in both directions.
- Can I get an extension on the IT-204-LL?
- No. New York allows no extension of time for either filing the form or paying the fee, which is why a March deadline and an unclosed prior year is the worst combination on this page.
- My business lost money last year. Do I still owe anything?
- Probably yes. The LLC filing fee is keyed to gross income and the corporate fixed dollar minimum is keyed to New York receipts, so neither one asks whether you were profitable. A closed year tells you the amount.
- I am in Brooklyn. Does the city tax apply to me?
- All five boroughs are the city. An unincorporated business carrying on a trade or profession there is in scope for the Unincorporated Business Tax, and a corporation is in scope for the Business Corporation Tax. Passive rental of your own property is treated differently.
- Do you file the sales tax return or the IT-204-LL?
- No. We do not file anything, anywhere. We produce closed books, the reports, the full ledger and a preparer-importable handoff. Your CPA prepares and signs what gets filed.
- Do you work with New York banks and credit unions?
- Any US bank or card issuer, as a PDF or CSV export. Chase, Citi, M&T, KeyBank, Dime, Amalgamated, the regionals and the credit unions all export statements we can read.
- What if I am two years behind?
- Catch-Up 24 covers up to 24 months at $1,899. If your opening balance points at activity older than the statements you sent, we say so before you pay and price the extra months at the same public rate.
